The Financial Times was last night awarded both International and National Newspaper of the Year at the News Awards 2021, which celebrate the best in news media print, technology and business innovation.

FT news editor Matthew Garrahan said: “The News Awards recognise excellence in print newspaper journalism and design so this is a real tribute to our fantastic print team, led by the amazing Suzanne Blumsom, and editorial creative director Kevin Wilson. The FT continues to produce a vibrant and profitable print product - and these awards recognise that.”

FT executive newspaper editor Suzanne Blumsom, pictured above collecting the awards, added: “The awards are a credit to the entire FT Group, but special thanks go to the print editorial production team who work tirelessly every day to produce an exceptional paper of which we are all very proud.”

Judges’ comments: “This year the FT was the run-away winner of the international category. It oozes professional and insightful news content and its print quality is excellent throughout. The superb picture quality is sharp and clear. What an exceptional example of web-offset printing.”

National Newspaper of the Year

Winner: Financial Times

Judges’ comments: “A clear winner, there was universal acknowledgement of the FT’s ‘fantastic’ reproduction on highly distinguishable salmon pink paper. Superb consistency, with beautifully balanced informative content. Has major gravitas with different formats of content.”
