17 October 2018: On Monday, the Financial Times unveiled FT News Briefing, an audio rundown of the top global business stories of the day, designed for use with Google Assistant/Home and Amazon Alexa. 

The briefing, supported by Equinor, is also available as a podcast, including on popular platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher and Acast. Each day, editors will select the top business, markets and global news stories and deliver the briefing from the newsroom of the Financial Times.

Listeners will be able to ask their voice assistants and smart speakers to play the FT News Briefing by 5am GMT Monday through Friday. 

“Through data and research, we know that our consumers, who are generally time-poor, are looking for easy ways to access FT content via smart speakers and audio platforms,” said Alastair Mackie, head of audio for commercial. “FT News Briefing allows us to both engage with existing subscribers and those who are new to our journalism.”

FT News Briefing builds on already existing audio products from the FT, which include a range of popular podcasts and text-to-audio stories.
