10 December 2018: The Financial Times took home four prizes at the 2018 Press Gazette British Journalism Awards tonight in London.

The Financial Times was named News Provider of the Year. Judges commended the FT for “going beyond the borders of its core subject area” and “pushing the boundaries of what readers expect from a Fleet Street paper. It has raised the the bar for clear, impactful journalism.”

Political correspondent Laura Hughes (@Laura_K_Hughes) won the Political Journalism award for her reporting on sexual harassment at Westminster. Judges noted, “This story, the truth of sexual harassment at Westminster, was published before the #MeToo movement really took off. It was a forensically detailed investigation.”

FT’s global media editor Matthew Garrahan (@MattGarrahan) took home the prize in Arts & Entertainment for his reporting on Harvey Weinstein. Judges said Garrahan “broke significant new ground in the big story of the year, by revealing how leading legal firms were complicit in the cover up”. He was previously recognised at the 2018 British Press Awards for his reporting on Weinstein, Murdoch, and the rise of streaming.

The FT’s Uber Game took home the award for Innovation of the Year. Robin Kwong (@RobinKwong) managed the project together with a team of art directors and developers. The Uber game recently won the award for Excellence and Innovation in Visual Digital Storytelling, Large Newsroom at the OJA’s and the Gold Medal at the 2018 Serious Play Awards).

The British Journalism Awards, now in their seventh year, recognise exceptional journalism in the public’s interest. You can find the full list of winners here.
