The Financial Times has appointed Sophie Knight as global communications director. She will lead internal and external communications, and takes over from Kristina Eriksson who has left the FT after 15 years.

Knight was previously VP of corporate communications at Weber Shandwick in Hong Kong, the region’s largest international agency. Before that, she led global communications at Qatar Airways and has held a number of other high profile, strategic roles in her career.

She will oversee the FT’s teams in London, New York and Hong Kong, and be responsible for managing the FT’s reputation during a period of continued subscriber growth in key markets including the US, Asia-Pacific and Europe and strong financial performance.

Knight will report to FT chief communications and marketing officer Finola McDonnell. Commenting on the appointment, McDonnell said: “Sophie has fantastic energy, range and experience. She’s a canny communications pro and I know she’ll handle what is one of the most busy and varied portfolios at the FT deftly”.
