Stephanie Hanson, Legal Counsel at the FT, recently volunteered at S-Factor Academy, a grassroots inclusive athletics club in South East London run entirely by volunteers.
Stephanie volunteers for S-Factor Academy as a voluntary Chair and Welfare (Child Protection) Officer. Read more about one particular day of volunteer leave below.
My volunteer day was taken in preparation of the club's awards evening which was held on Saturday 25th November 2017 to reward the efforts and achievements of young people and volunteers.
Leading up to the event I successfully liaised with two media outlets to get some positive publicity for S-Factor. I also travelled across London to collect banners, posters and created S-Factor club photo calendars. I finished off by preparing a PowerPoint presentation which was used for announcing winners on the night.
The event was attended by the club's ambassadors Christine Ohuruogu MBE and Ade Adepitan MBE. Special guests included “CK Flash”, CEO of Peckham BMX, and Sport England Board member, Chris Grant.
Ade Adepitan’s keynote speech was incredibly moving, relaying his journey from losing his lower limbs to polio to becoming an Olympic wheelchair basketball champion. His words left everyone with a spring in their step. I was feeling motivated!
