30 March 2020: Today, FT Moral Money, a new journalism vertical exploring the international shift towards ethical, sustainable and responsible investing, was awarded a SABEW Best in Business award for its influential newsletter

The vertical consists of a twice-weekly newsletter and a hub page, providing original news and commentary as well as a roundup of relevant journalism from the FT, FT Specialist and Nikkei Asian Review. It is led by Gillian Tett, US editor-at-large and chairman of the editorial board, US business editor Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson, FT Moral Money producer/reporter Billy Nauman, FT Moral Money reporter Patrick Temple-West and Nikkei correspondent Tamami Shimizuishi. Additional FT Moral Money contributions are provided by reporters, editors and interns across various FT desks.

Judges said, “...the FT’s Moral Money newsletter showed what creativity and flexibility could produce for readers with an interest in corporate governance and social responsibility... The newsletter is packaged well with commentary, extended blurbs, photos, graphics and then roundups of headlines that provide a sweep of ESG developments over a week... It’s interactive too; the newsletter’s readers are invited to comment, and writers respond...Great imagination, few wasted words and incredibly useful to readers; what a terrific debut.”

The FT also received an honourable mention in the Large Division’s Breaking News category for its in-depth coverage of WeWork, produced by Edgecliffe-Johnson, US corporate finance and deals editor James Fontanella-Khan, US mergers & acquisitions correspondent Eric Platt, US banking editor Laura Noonan and Lex column deputy editor Elaine Moore.

The SABEW awards, sponsored by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, are now in their 25th year. Entries came from 183 news organizations across all platforms representing the breadth of business journalism, from international, national and regional news outlets to specialized business publications.
