3 April 2020: The FT won the award for best business and finance team at the Society of Editors’ Press Awards for the inside story of Neil Woodford’s downfall.
Judges described the Woodford scandal as ‘the number one finance story of the year’, noting that ‘the FT team consistently led the coverage on the fund’s downfall’. They added that the ‘research and endless information gathering paid off with a series of agenda-setting exclusives on the story.’
The FT’s journalism was also highly commended in the following categories:
- Tim Bradshaw was honoured in the Business & Finance Journalist of the Year category for his reporting on Jony Ive’s departure from Apple.
- Leslie Hook was recognised for her investigation into the air pollution on the London Underground in the Environment Journalist of the Year category.
- Madhumita Murgia was highly commended in the Technology Journalist of the Year category for her exclusive piece on facial recognition surveillance in Kings Cross.
