7 May 2018: FTChinese has introduced a paid subscription model to diversify revenue streams, provide readers with an expanded library of quality content, and align the business with the Financial Times’ global strategy.

FTChinese first launched in 2005 and has since offered Registered Users unlimited, complimentary access to FTChinese.com. The launch of paid subscriptions offers readers new Standard and Premium subscription options.

FTChinese has introduced paid subscriptions to provide readers with an expanded library of quality content, including additional market and investment stories, as well as macroeconomic commentary and analysis. The new model will also further engage readers and help foster a community beyond content, as Premium subscribers have access to the FTChinese Annual Forum, the FT’s flagship conference in China.

A paid subscription model will allow FTChinese to diversify revenue streams and further support sustainable growth. FTChinese readership continues to demonstrate strong growth, with the number of registered users increasing by 6% to 2.7 million in 2017, providing a large pool of potential subscribers.

Angela Mackay, Managing Director, Asia Pacific at the Financial Times, said, “The launch of a paid subscription model is a significant milestone for FTChinese and represents our long-term position as a major player in China. Most importantly, the new subscription model aligns FTChinese with the FT’s global strategy, which has proven very successful - the FT’s total paid circulation is 930,000 and growing.”

Tracy Zhang, Publisher of FTChinese, said, “As the leading source of news for China’s top business executives and decision makers, FTChinese must continue to evolve to meet the changing needs and demands of our readers. The FTChinese audience needs news and analysis in real time, through numerous channels, in different formats and we have an unrivalled product in China that delivers exactly that.”
