Erika Solomon (@ErikaSolomon), Middle East correspondent for the Financial Times, was named international journalist of the year at the One World Media Awards in London yesterday.

Now in its 28th year, the One World Media Awards recognise excellence in international media coverage.

Solomon was nominated and selected for her “her brave investigative journalism,” according to the judges. Her investigative series, “Isis, Inc”, takes a deep look at how the Isis economy affects civilian life within its territories and beyond, forcing even its enemies to do business with it.

Earlier this year Solomon won the 2016 Overseas Press Club award for best investigation in any medium, as well as the FT’s internal Jones-Mauthner prize for excellence in international reporting, both for “Isis, Inc.”

Alec Russell (@AlecuRussell), FT Weekend Editor, and Seb Morton-Clarke (@sebmc), Acting Global head of FT video, were runners up for the One World Media Short Film Award for “Big Game, Big Money”, about the multibillion dollar illegal trade in rare animal parts. Judges called it, “Brave, meaningful, and impactful.”
