22 December 2020: Today, the Financial Times announces the appointment of Alice Fishburn as opinion and analysis editor and assistant editor, effective 1 March.

Fishburn has worked as deputy editor of FT Weekend under editor Alec Russell and editor of FT Weekend Magazine since 2015. She has been heavily involved in the creation and launch of Globetrotter, the FT’s travel initiative which calls on readers to share their top recommendations, and the award-winning FT Weekend Festival.

Commenting on the appointment, FT editor Roula Khalaf said: “We want to give business leaders the insight and analysis they need to navigate the complexities posed by the coronavirus pandemic.”

“Under Alice’s stewardship, FT Weekend Magazine has consistently been heralded for its long-form journalism and award-winning coverage. Alice’s creativity and critical thinking will be a tremendous asset as we continue to modernise the FT’s opinion output,” she added.

Fishburn will take over from Brooke Masters, who was named chief business columnist and associate editor earlier this year. In a move to further strengthen the FT’s business coverage, the FT has appointed Helen Thomas as business columnist from 1 March.
