The Financial Times has won two awards at the Comment Awards from Editorial Intelligence. At the ceremony held this morning FT Alphaville won the award for Online Newspaper Blog, and Financial Times’ chief economics commentator Martin Wolf won the award for Commentariat of the Year.

Highly regarded by the industry, FT Alphaville is a free daily news and commentary service for financial professionals. It recently announced its global expansion with the move of editor Paul Murphy to New York, providing real-time financial commentary on Wall Street through its Markets Live section.

Jag Singh, CIO of MessageSpace and a Judge at the awards said ahead of the ceremony: “I’ll be voting for FT Alphaville, for the following reasons: very good use of interaction, they’ve built up a real community, humour with professionalism, a lot of scoops, well-sectioned, and easy to navigate.”

Martin Wolf has been with the FT since 1987 when he joined as chief economics leader writer. He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the British Empire) in 2000 for services to financial journalism.

Martin Dickson, FT’s deputy editor said: “We are delighted to see how the FT continues to be recognised in the industry for its quality journalism and online innovation. FT Alphaville has been a great success, bolstered by continued developments to the site to drive interaction with readers such as Markets Live and FT Long Room. We are committed to providing the best quality journalism and it’s great to see Martin Wolf being recognised for his outstanding work and contribution to the industry.”

The first Comment Awards brought by Editorial Intelligence aim to celebrate comment in all forms from both print and online. Sir Christopher Meyer was Chairman of the Judges, and other judges include a host of senior professions from within the politics, media, academia and public life.
