The Financial Times has today launched a new digital printing plant in Cyprus.

The new site prints copies of the FT’s European edition each day. With papers previously having to be flown from Frankfurt, the technology not only means early availability for Cyprus readers but has a strong environmental benefit, reducing the FT’s air cargo shipments.

Financial Times deputy editor Martin Dickson offically opened the site today with Cyprus finance minister, Charilaos Stavrakis. Martin Dickson said: “The FT is committed to making its content available to readers throughout the world using the appropriate mix of traditional printing, digital printing and online access across a variety of platforms”.

The development follows the successful launch of a digital printing plant in Malta in 2009 and the FT is looking to roll out similar technology in other markets that are difficult to serve from traditional print sites.
