Three Financial Times journalists have been honoured at the Royal Statistical Society’s annual awards for statistical excellence in journalism.  The awards recognise  journalists’ use of statistics to question, analyse and investigate the issues that affect society at large.

Chris Giles, economics editor, won in the print category for his news article, ‘£12bn hole threatens plans to cut the deficit‘ and accompanying analysis, ‘Growth picture clouded by spare capacity doubts‘.  Chris Cook, education correspondent, was commended in the same category for his report on lower income British white children lagging behind their ethnic minority peers.

In addition, FT columnist Tim Harford’s radio programme, More or Less, was formally commended in the broadcast category.
