The Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) named the Financial Times in two categories on its 2015 Honoree List today. The Best in Business competition recognises the year’s finest business news coverage and commentary.
- In the newspaper breaking news category, Kara Scannell (@KaraScannell), Philip Stafford (@staffordphilip), along with Michael Mackenzie (@michaellachlan) and Nicole Bullock (@nicoleabullock), were named the winners for their piece, “Flash Crash Trader.”
From the judges: “A comprehensive series of stories on the so-called flash crash/spoofing trader that shows how and why British trader Navinder Singh Sarao violated securities laws.” - In the newspaper commentary category, Gary Silverman (@GaryRSilverman) was named a finalist.
From the judges: “Gary Silverman showed his nose for news last year when the Financial Times published his column “Craft versus Kraft,” about how traditional food companies like Kraft Foods were struggling to keep up with changes in consumer demand. Nine days later, Kraft succumbed to a merger with Heinz that was orchestrated in part by Warren Buffett.”
The FT has received honours from the SABEW Best in Business Awards for the past several years, including for breaking news, international commentary, and government reporting.
