19 April 2018: The FT’s senior legal counsel Kendra James won the highly prestigious "Rising Star of the Year" award at the 2018 Legal Business awards last night.

The judges commended James “for her front-line role that requires her to take strategic decisions to ensure that the FT remains an iconic brand protected around the world.” James oversees the FT’s intellectual property and brand strategy.

GC Dan Guildford said: “The FT is recognised internationally for its authority, integrity and accuracy of news reporting, and Kendra’s brand protection work, which includes creating and implementing internal brand policies and guidelines, is therefore hugely important to our business.”

The Rising Star In-House Counsel of the Year award recognises “outstanding achievements by in-house lawyers below general counsel level tipped for great things by their colleagues, peers and advisers.”

The in-house legal team was also the subject of one of the feature profiles in this year's ‘Team Elite Powerlist’, published by Legal 500, which was launched last night. The report sets out the leading in-house legal teams in the country.
