FT Digital Media 2016 attracts industry thought leaders

The FT Digital Media summit took place in London this week. Chaired by FT’s West Coast managing editor Richard Waters, with sessions led by media editor Matthew Garrahan, the event attracted thought leaders and journalists from across the world.

David Pemsel, CEO of Guardian Media Group, opened the conference by discussing the Guardian’s strategy and approach to ad blocking.

FT CEO John Ridding and Nikkei Chairman Tsuneo Kita took part in a fireside chat, moderated by James Harding, BBC’s Director of News and Current Affairs. Tsuneo Kita told the audience that the Japanese media group is not looking for an immediate return from the company’s £844m purchase of the Financial Times and will judge the success of the deal over the next 10 to 20 years.

Other speakers included: Rona Fairhead, Chairman, BBC Trust; Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO, WPP; David Abraham, CEO, Channel 4; Andrea Wong, President, International, Sony Pictures Entertainment; Tania Alexander, Director of Factual Entertainment, Studio Lambert; and Stephen Nuttall, Senior Director of YouTube EMEA.
