“Suits and the City,” a new photoblog documenting the look of New York’s best-dressed professionals, has already proven to be a welcome addition to FT.com. The blog can be found on Luxury 360, a subsection of FT.com that houses all FT news, analysis and special features related to the luxury industry. It is edited by FT fashion editor Vanessa Friedman and photographer Sophie Elgort.

Each day, Elgort scouts the streets of New York to find “people who stand out and whose outfits don’t blend in with what everyone else is wearing. Sometimes it is as simple as a really nice, well fitted suit, whereas other times it is somebody who can pull off wearing lots of colors or patterns, putting them together in a way that is still professional.” Once the subject’s photo is snapped, she gathers information on what designers they’re wearing and speaks to them about the philosophy behind their style. The slideshow is updated daily at http://on.ft.com/t6syoD.

Vanessa Friedman added: “Although there are many street style blogs, they tend to focus on the most outré and singular outfits, and we felt there was a real audience that wasn’t being served: the professional. We are thrilled to introduce Sophie Elgort, a very talented young photographer, as the woman behind required daily viewing for the executives caught in her lens – and the men and women who want to dress like them.”

Elgort was exposed to photography from a young age, taking photos from the time she could hold a camera and accompanying her father, acclaimed Vogue photographer Arthur Elgort, on his photo shoots. Since graduating from Brown University in 2008, she has also photographed for Bloomingdales, Theory, Buccellati, Rent the Runway, Topshop and Phillips de Pury.
