The 44th annual World Economic Forum in Davos saw global political and business leaders come together to discuss the theme “The Reshaping of the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business.”

Inside the WEF Congress Centre, Lionel Barber chaired the event ‘Closing Europe’s Competitiveness Gap’. Panellists included Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission; Joe Kaeser, president and CEO of Siemens; Enda Kenny, Taoiseach of Ireland; and Mariano Rajoy Brey, Prime Minister of Spain.
Martin Wolf moderated a heavyweight panel on the Global Economic Outlook 2014. It included Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund; Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India; Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England; Akira Amari, Japan’s minister for economic revitalisation; Yi Gang, Deputy Governor of People’s Bank of China; Angel Gurria, Secretary-General for the OECD; Trevor Manuel, minister of the National Planning Commission of South Africa.
Gillian Tett moderated a strong panel on Investing for Impact, and Gideon Rachman chaired the Global Leadership in Transition debate.
For the fifth year running, the FT CNBC Nightcap took place at the Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère. The event gathered more than 350 of the world’s most influential business leaders, government officials and economists. Hosted by FT CEO John Ridding and CNBC President Mark Hoffman, guests included Citigroup CEO Michael Corbat, JP Morgan CEO James Dimon; BlackRock Chairman and CEO Larry Fink; Morgan Stanley President and CEO James Gorman; London Business School Professor Lynda Gratton; Lord Mandelson PC; Brian Moynihan, President and CEO Bank of America; and Larry Summers, former US Treasury Secretary.
The FT partnered with Edelman for the annual Trust Barometer event where Gillian Tett moderated a panel discussing the state of trust across government, media and financial institutions. Panellists were Rui Chenggang, Director and Anchor, CCTV; Paul Polman, CEO, Unilever; Doug Peterson, President and CEO, McGraw Hill Financial; Subi Rangan, Professor of Strategy and Management, INSEAD and Jasmine Whitbread, CEO, Save the Children International.
The FT also hosted the FT / Wipro Executive Dinner Forum – ‘Resilience: Building ‘Bounce’ Into Your Corporate Structure held at the Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère. Bringing together experts on the topic of operational and strategic resilience, the event was attended by 120 VIP’s including HSNB CEO Douglas Flint; Hugh Johnston, PepsiCo Inc Executive Vice-President & CFO; and Glenn Hutchins, Co-founder of Silver Lake.
