Winners will be announced at the FT Banking Summit in November

The Financial Times announces the launch of the FT Future of FinTech Awards, which will recognise the companies and projects that are using new technologies to disrupt the global financial services industry.

The FT Future of FinTech Award will be open for entries in the following two categories:

  • Innovation – this category is eligible for companies incorporated on or after 1st January 2011 and with an annual turnover lower than $3m. These companies should have received less than $30m in total investment and not more advanced than series A or B funding.
  • Impact – this category would be mainly for larger financial institutions and established businesses which are building new solutions. These companies are defined as having been incorporated after Jan 1 2011, or have an annual turnover higher than $10m, or have received funding in excess of $30m, or have gone beyond a series B funding round.

“With venture capital firms investing almost $15bn in fintech start-ups last year, the fintech sector has substance behind the hype. As judges, we will be looking for companies that present a unique idea but also a clear business model and revenue stream. These awards will recognise the most innovative yet sustainable fintech solutions that will have a lasting impact on the banking sector for years to come.” said Patrick Jenkins, the FT’s financial editor and chair of the judging panel.

The judges are:

  • Patrick Jenkins, Financial Editor, FT (chair)
  • Martin Arnold , Banking Editor, FT
  • Eileen Burbidge, Partner, Passion Capital
  • Bob Collymore, Chief Executive, Safaricom
  • Anshu Jain, Senior Advisor, McKinsey Global Institute
  • Ricardo Pérez, Professor of Information Systems, Instituto de Empresa
  • Kosta Peric, Deputy director, Financial Services for the Poor, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The awards are open for worldwide entries until September 18. Shortlisted entrants will then be announced on October 31 and the overall winners will be announced on November 16 at the FT Banking Summit in London.
