Hong Kong: The Financial Times announces this week’s launch of the new FTChinese.com app for the Apple iPad. The app takes advantage of the iPad’s unique interface and provides interactive access to a broad range of FTChinese.com content including video, slide shows, BizGym features, news and analysis.

The app is available for free as is access to FTChinese.com. New users of the website, however, need to register if they’d like to make comments or participate in online promotions. Luxury watchmaker, Rolex, is sponsoring the FTChinese.com iPad app launch.

“The iPad is another exciting platform to provide readers with FTChinese.com’s high quality content. Our objective is to allow users to read the FTChinese.com award-winning content comprehensively on the move as well as enable them to interact further with the website’s dynamic features such as slide shows, videos and interactive quizzes”, said Oliver Zhang, Senior Product Manager, FTChinese.com.

“The FTChinese.com App for iPad may be customised to combine the interactivity and immediacy of the site. It builds on the success of the award-winning Financial Times App for the iPad launched in May which has already gained over 250,000 downloads and been well received by advertisers and users alike,” said Tracy Zhang, managing director of FTChinese.com.

Key features of the app include the ability to:

  • Download the daily FTChinese.com articles to your iPad for offline reading
  • View the site’s top video interview. This is the first time that FTChinese.com has offered video on one of its mobile products
  • Support all of FTChinese.com’s interactive functions, such as BizGym and online slide shows
  • All ads will be animated, allowing more dynamic formats and options to clients

The new application is compatible with both the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G iPad models and is free from the App Store on iPad.
