3 April 2019: The FT scooped four prizes at the 2019 British Press Awards in London last night for its business, politics, environment and travel journalism.

FT political correspondent Laura Hughes was named Young Journalist of the Year for her coverage of sexual misconduct in Westminster. Judges said Hughes “showed great determination and ambition to change the culture in Westminster through this hugely important story.” Hughes was also highly commended in the Political Journalist of the Year category.

Madison Marriage and Matthew Garrahan received the award for Business and Finance Journalist of the Year for their reporting on Martin Sorrell’s departure from WPP.  Judges said their investigation “illuminated Sorrell’s insalubrious workplace behaviour” and resulted in “the ultimate dethroning of one of Britain's most revered CEOs.”

Pilita Clark was named Environment Journalist of the Year for the fourth year running. Judges described Clark’s coverage of Antarctica as “brimming with evidence of the continent’s pressing environmental dilemmas” and noted how she demonstrated “verve and an ability to distil complex scientific issues”.

Tom Robbins picked up the award for Travel Journalist of the Year for his piece about skiing from the summit of Mont Blanc. Judges described his work as “both gripping and informative”.

Leslie Hook was highly commended in the Environment Journalist of the Year category and Pilita Clark was runner up for Science Journalist of the Year.

The Press Awards celebrate the best of British journalism and are organised by the Society of Editors. Please find the full list of winners here.
