The Financial Times appoints Richard Edgar UK news editor and Sarah Neville public policy editor.

Richard Edgar has been appointed UK news editor for the Financial Times. He will oversee coverage of UK news stories, including politics, public policy, economy and business. Edgar was previously global head of video at the FT and the driving force in the development of its successful and growing video department, as well as the opening of the FT’s new multi-camera video studio.

He has over a decade and a half of journalism experience spanning print, online and broadcast platforms. He joined the FT from Reuters in 2007 where he was Editor in Charge of EMEA relations for Reuters Television. Prior to Reuters, Edgar worked as a presenter, reporter and editor at the BBC. He will take up his new post in October.
Sarah Neville will cover global health and welfare issues in her new role as public policy editor, focusing on the way in which society is changing in an age of austerity. Neville, who was previously the UK news editor, has held a number of roles during her decade at the FT, including analysis editor and weekend news editor.

For almost five years she has run the UK newsdesk, overseeing coverage of the 2010 general election and the transformation of the newsdesk into an integrated web/print news operation. She will start her new role in September.
Nick Timmins will continue to write for the Financial Times as public policy commentator.
