Public invited to attend free charity exhibition featuring works of celebrated photographers on 29 – 30 November
The Financial Times and Sightsavers are hosting a free photography exhibition at London’s Getty Images Gallery to mark the launch of this year’s seasonal appeal. The annual appeal runs from November to mid-January with coverage of a chosen charity’s work and is this year in aid of Sightsavers, which aims to change the lives of some of the 39 million people in the world who are blind.
The free, two-day photography exhibition is open to the public and features a special selection of works by celebrated photographers such as Martin Parr, Charlie Bibby, Tom Hunter, Matt Cardy, Eamonn McCabe and Jane Bown. Sponsored by Standard Chartered, the event will conclude with a private auction hosted by Sothebys on 30 November, with over 20 photographs up for sale. Photographs on display and up for auction include a one-off print of all 2011 F1 World Championship drivers, signed by all the drivers and taken by top sports photographer Andrew Hone, plus a photograph of Sightsavers work taken in Nigeria by this year’s FT appeal photographer Charlie Bibby. The impact of the appeal will be aided by Standard Chartered Bank, which has generously agreed to match all donations through its long-standing community investment programme, Seeing is Believing. This means that for every £1 donated another £1 will be given by Seeing is Believing, helping Sightsavers to bring vital eye services to some of the poorest communities in the world.
