AI PRINCIPLES
Our approach to using AI
The Financial Times is committed to human-led journalism and the protection of our intellectual property, brand, and business. We embrace the use of artificial intelligence when it enhances our services for readers and clients and supports our long-standing culture of thoughtful, effective innovation.
The principles outlined below guide all AI-related initiatives across the FT Group:
We will not allow AI to compromise the integrity of our journalism, which will continue to be reported, written and created by our journalists and editors. We will experiment with AI to assist journalists, such as in story discovery, to improve quality and accuracy, and to create secondary content with the appropriate disclosure.
We are committed to privacy and consent. We respect the privacy of our customers and employees and will only use their data within the boundaries of data protection laws. We will minimise or eliminate bias and discrimination wherever possible.
We will protect our own intellectual property, brand and business. We will work to ensure that organisations do not use the FT’s journalism and IP without explicit permission, and will prohibit unauthorised or unlicensed use of our content insofar as possible.
We will use AI technology and partner with AI organisations where it enhances our business. We believe that AI can complement the talent, creativity, skills and experience of our workforce and enable us to do more, but we will be diligent in our assessment of potential partners and suppliers.
We support innovation in AI. We will use our position and influence in the world to champion the responsible use of AI and lead by example.
