James Lamont

Director of Strategic Partnerships

James Lamont is director of strategic partnerships, responsible for identifying innovative partnership opportunities and leading high-growth initiatives. Previously, he was the FT’s managing editor from 2012, overseeing editorial strategic direction, newsroom digital transformation and global talent management.

Lamont was the FT’s South Asia bureau chief in New Delhi and world news editor in London. He joined the FT in 2001 as Southern Africa bureau chief.

Before the FT, he edited Business Report, South Africa’s largest financial daily, and was deputy editor of the Middle East Times in Cairo. He also reported on oil and gas for the Opec news agency. Lamont began his journalism career in UK consumer media.
