Dan Guildford

General Counsel

Dan Guildford leads the FT’s global legal, compliance and company secretarial team, supporting the FT’s journalism, commercial innovation and international growth.

His practice spans a wide range of legal and regulatory issues with a global and often novel dimension, from M&A, privacy and competition law to IP, advertising and press regulation. He has played a central role in shaping the FT’s approach to artificial intelligence, including its approach to licensing and its internal governance framework. He advises across the C-suite and contributes to various key governance forums.

Guildford became General Counsel in 2013, having joined the FT in 2009 after a decade in private practice with leading UK and US law firms. He has built a high-performing in-house team that works closely with the business on its goals, priorities and risk appetite. He focuses on keeping legal advice practical and relevant, while supporting the professional development of his colleagues and embedding innovation and process improvement across the function.
