Can you please tell us a bit about yourself and your current role?

Of course! My name is Nadia Dewji, and I’ve been with the FT for two and a half years. I'm currently the US Commercial Marketing Manager based in New York. FT Commercial works with the world’s leading companies to create compelling content that cuts through the noise. My role involves leading FT's commercial marketing program in the Americas, creating multi-channel campaigns, and forming strategic partnerships that enhance client relationships, generate new business leads, and extend FT's commercial brand in the region.

What was your first role at FT, and what motivated you to join?

My initial role at the FT was as a Marketing Executive in the FT Professional team in London, UK. I joined the FT because I felt I had reached my full potential at my previous organisation, and I had a passion for digital marketing that I wanted to pursue. The FT's stellar reputation, commitment to work-life balance, opportunities for growth, and exceptional people were all compelling reasons to join. The relationships I've built and the lessons I've learned have been invaluable.

What moves have you made within FT, whether that’s across your team, to other departments, or geographically?

After starting as a Marketing Executive, I was promoted to Senior Marketing Executive, all while working at our London Head Office, Bracken House. From there, I applied for my current role in the FT's Commercial Marketing Team, which led to my relocation to New York.

Why did you decide to go for a promotion or change?

I felt I had reached my potential as an Executive and wanted to progress into a managerial position. I applied for my current position to validate my readiness for the next step and to experience working in the United States, which was a thrilling opportunity.

How has the FT helped you develop or progress in your role or in your career?

The FT has provided me with remarkable opportunities. I've been mentored by inspiring leaders who believed in me and helped shape my thinking. With the help of a strong support system as well as my ambitious nature, I had managed to achieve record-breaking results in my department which gave me the courage to strive for the next step.

It’s worth noting that not only has the FT helped me grow professionally, but also personally. Along with navigating a new city and learning more about myself, I have also joined FT Embrace which has been very rewarding. This past month, I was able to showcase and teach others about my heritage which meant a lot to me!

What FT project are you most excited to work on now?

My role as the US Commercial Marketing Manager has been a shift from my previous digital and group subscriptions focus. I'm now working in advertising and delving into the B2C side of the business. I'm excited to apply what I've learned and innovate our ways of working. I aim to make our practices more digital-focused while maintaining personalised client relationships.

How would you encourage other people to make a similar move?

My advice is simple: just go for it! Believe in yourself and take that leap. As Norman Vincent Peale said, "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." When I applied for this role, I didn't have a rigid plan, but I believed in my ability to make it work. It turned out to be the best decision I ever made. The FT is a supportive environment with people always willing to share their wisdom and support you, so don't hesitate to ask around and work hard.
