Financial Times kicks off 2012 global media partnership with Social Media Week

For the third consecutive year, the Financial Times will participate as a global media partner on Social Media Week, a weeklong festival devoted to exploring emerging trends in social and mobile media. The global event will begin on February 13 in twelve cities around the world.

Social media has become a valuable tool for media companies, including the FT, where social media is the fastest growing source of online traffic. On Wednesday, February 15, we will host a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities involved in adapting a successful social media strategy. The panel, “Can media companies get social,” will be moderated by Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson, Global Media Editor of the FT, and will feature Jane Friedman, CEO and Co-Founder of Open Road Media, Rob Grimshaw, Managing Director of FT.com, Brian Madden, Director of Audience Development and Social Media at Hearst Digital, and Jonathan Wald, Executive Producer of CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight.

The session will take place in New York from 2:30-3:30 PM ET at Big Fuel Headquarters (40 West 23rd Street, NYC), and will be webcast live for those unable to attend. Learn more and register to attend this free event.

On Wednesday, February 15 in London, Tim Bradshaw, the FT’s Digital Media Correspondent, will speak on the panel, “Me! Me! Me! The Battle for Attention: Brands, Publishers and Social Networks,” hosted by Chinwag. Other participants include Leo Ryan, 360 Influence Strategy Director at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, Tom Messett, Global Editor in Chief – Social Media at Nokia, and Dom Dwight, Conversation Manager at Bettys & Taylors of Harrogate (Yorkshire Tea). On Thursday, February 16 in New York, Paul Taylor, the FT’s Technology Reporter, will moderate the session, “We’re All Social Now: Why B2B Marketers Can Get With the Conversation,” hosted by LinkedIn.
