FT and IFC launch Transformational Business Awards

LONDON: 12 December 2013: The Financial Times and IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, today launch an awards programme to showcase business initiatives that can create long-term, transformative solutions to environmental, social, and corporate governance challenges, particularly in developing nations.

The FT/IFC Transformational Business Awards: Sustainable Solutions to Today’s Development Challenges expand the FT/IFC Sustainable Finance Awards, which established themselves over eight years as the leading global awards for environmentally and socially responsible banking and investment. The 2013 Sustainable Finance Awards attracted a record 254 entries from 221 organisations in 61 countries. Read more >>

Financial Times rolls out semantic advertising service FT Smart Match globally

11 December 2013: The Financial Times is extending its content matching service ‘FT Smart Match’ to global advertising clients after a successful initial trial. The technology, provided by Smartology, recognises the meaning of news articles, allowing advertisers to match their content to relevant news stories in real time on FT.com.

Piloted in June 2011 and going well beyond the industry standard of keyword recognition, FT Smart Match uses an emerging technology called ‘semantic profiling’ which analyses text through weighting ‘concepts’ and ‘categories’ to derive matching accuracy for advertiser content on FT.com. By automating advertising placement from content, the technology solves a major problem for advertisers and pioneers a new approach to display advertising. Read more >>

Sanergy is named global winner at 2013 FT/Citi Ingenuity Awards

NEW YORK: 10 December 2013: The Financial Times and Citi are pleased to announce that Sanergy has been named the global winner of the 2013 FT/Citi Ingenuity Awards: Urban Ideas in Action programme. The Nairobi based non-profit organisation was selected by a distinguished panel of judges, including last year’s winner, for developing a sustainable and hygienic sanitation system that recycles human waste to generate electricity and fertilizer for local farmers.

Financial Times appoints Patrick Jenkins as financial editor and assistant editor

29 November 2013: The Financial Times has appointed Patrick Jenkins as financial editor and assistant editor from 1 January 2014. In his new role Jenkins will oversee and shape the FT’s broader financial coverage, with a focus on financial services and investment. He will lead a team of journalists globally and work closely with editors in the markets, Lex, FT Money and FTfm teams.

Financial Times launches on Google Play Newsstand

20 November 2013: The Financial Times is now available on Google Play Newsstand, a new app for Android phones and tablets that brings together newspapers, magazines, blogs and news sites. The app will be rolled out this week and the FT is a launch partner.

Users can read eight articles a month for free before subscribing for full access, in line with the FT’s metered access model. For the first time, readers will be able to subscribe to the FT directly through the third party platform. Read more >>

FT introduces ‘gift article’ for subscribers

15 November: The Financial Times has launched a new ‘gift article’ feature for subscribers which simplifies the sharing of articles with their networks. At launch, the service allows FT subscribers to share up to 10 articles per month through email to non-subscribers.

Rob Grimshaw, managing director of FT.com, said: “The gift article is a great example of the tools we are developing to advance our community focus and bring new benefits to subscribers. It is also an important opportunity to further our readership and reach new audiences.” Read more >>
