Beginning in November 2014, I spent three months with the Comment & Analysis desk on an editorial internship. This was an excellent experience and one that provided me with the opportunity to take on a number of different projects.

The majority of my duties involved editing articles for the paper and blogs, and by the end of my internship I had primary responsibility for editing all Comment blog posts. This included commissioning authors for blog posts, an experience that allowed me to shape the direction that the blog took. Other tasks included producing and editing the Big Read podcast, and responsibility for the social and community engagement duties on the desk, such as the @FTComment twitter feed and reader comments. Finally, I had ample opportunities to write for different sections of the paper, including sections outside of the Features remit.

The overall atmosphere of the Comment & Analysis team was very welcoming, and the demands of the desk meant that I was expected to pick up skills quickly and to contribute as an editor at an early stage. I enjoyed the challenge, and felt supported by the team throughout.
